Become a Democratic Precinct Committeeperson
You should become a Democratic Precinct Committeeperson (PC) if you want to help the Democratic Party win elections, and want to influence how your local and state Democratic Party operates. PCs are the foundation of the Democratic Party.
As a neighborhood level representative for the Democratic party, Precinct Committeepersons build relationships with voters in their neighborhood and drive voter turnout at a local level.
Pima County Democratic PCs make up the membership of the Pima County Democratic Party Committee and elect the officers of the Pima County Democratic Party (PCDP) every two years.
PCs also make up the membership of each Legislative District Democratic Committee and elect the officers of each Legislative District Committee every two years. The PCs of each Legislative District Committee elect the members of the Arizona Democratic Party State Committee, who in turn elect the leadership of the Arizona Democratic Party.
What Does a Precinct Commiteeperson Do?
- Build relationships and organize Democrats in their neighborhood
- Register new voters that move into their neighborhood
- Communicate the principles and platform of the Democratic Party
- Listen to voter’s concerns and communicate those concerns to the Democratic Party leadership
- Support Democratic candidates and officeholders representing their neighborhood

The Precinct Committeperson in Arizona
Every Arizona county is divided up into voter precincts of a few hundred to a few thousand voters. Here is a link to a map of Pima County voter precincts.
Under state law, each political party is allocated a number of Precinct Committeeperson positions in each precinct, calculated as one plus the number of that party's voters in the precinct divided by 125. PCs are elected in their party's primary election, and serve a two year term that begins October 1 of an election year, and ends on September 30 of the next election year. For example, PCs elected in the August 4, 2026 Democratic primary election will serve from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2028. If there are fewer PC candidates in a precinct than PC positions then the PC candidates do not appear on the ballot in their precinct and instead automatically become elected PCs.
If there are PC vacancies in a precinct the county board of supervisors appoints people recommended by the county party chairperson to fill those PC vacancies. See the link below to download the application to become an appointed PC for your precinct.
