Cesar DeDios (l) and Lew Coppes (r) welcome visitors at the PCDP booth at the Pima County Fair.

Our Pima County Fair tabling was a success! The volunteers who covered 10 days at the fair had productive interactions with the public. We registered 14 new voters, handed out voter-registration forms, collected lots of signatures for Outlaw Dirty Money, helped our candidates, and provided much-needed information regarding the Tucson Families Free and Together Initiative.

Registering brand-new 18-year-old voters was especially gratifying, as was helping a Republican register as a Democrat! Though the crowd tended to lean right, it was extremely rewarding to have so many people stop by the booth to chat, vent, or ask questions.

It was apparent that our fellow Democrats have their eyes on 2020. As we should. However, PCDP must first focus on the 2019 Tucson city council and mayoral races. Most of the people with whom we engaged knew little about these City of Tucson elections. Educating them should be at the LD level. Pick a candidate, initiative, anything to share with your family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances!

A huge thank you to all of the fantastic volunteers who gave their time and contributed to such a positive outcome. Special thanks to Lew Coppes, Chris and Jim Jaster, John Callor and Ed Messing, who went above and beyond the call of duty. Can’t wait till next year!

Proud to be a Democrat!
