“Atomic Al” Plays Duck-and-Cover, Runs From Debates
State Sen. Al Melvin, R-Saddlebrooke, has refused to debate challenger Cheryl Cage in a series of forums across Legislative District 26.
Given the fact that neither has a primary challenge, Cage wanted to spend time this summer discussing the issues and highlighting the substantive policy differences between herself and her opponent. “Atomic Al” would rather attend forums where he can recite his stump speech, placate a few constituents and get home in time to receive his nightly marching orders from his Phoenix Political Masters.
“Apparently talking about the issues in front of the voters doesn’t fit into Melvin’s busy schedule of gutting schools, giving handouts to corporations and the super-rich and drawing up plans to deregulate and then dump nuclear waste in our state,” said Pima County Democratic Party Chair Jeff Rogers.
“What is Melvin so scared of?”
Melvin has spent his first Legislative session ignoring his constituents and pushing an extreme agenda that would make Arizona the nuclear waste capital of America, privatize public schools and eliminate public libraries.
“If Al Melvin is so pleased with his record and thinks he's in tune with his constituents, he should be ready to shout it from the rooftops,” said Rogers. “Instead he's taking the voters of District 26 for granted by ducking debates.”
